Porsche
Tigers
Few modellers seem able to resist German prototypes of the
Second World War. In the development of the Tiger tank, Porsche
designs lost out to Henschel, but remain very interesting subjects.
The Tiger I (P) prototype shown here on
trials. Perhaps they are discussing its tendency to overheat?
This model is a conversion using an Airfix turret and a Fujimi Elefant
hull.

The Tiger II (P) The shot trap under
the mantlet of the Porsche turret is eliminated by the ridge formed by the
top of the glacis plate, which the Henschel hull lacked. This kit is
by Milicast |
...and the one that was not built, the Tiger II (P)
with rear-mounted turret. The advantages of crew protection, the potential for
a rear access door and lessening the overhang of the 8.8cm are
clear. This is a conversion from the Milicast kit, and makes an
interesting comparison with the Israeli Merkava. |

The deck layouts compared.
To our
knowledge the rear-turreted Tiger II (P) never progressed beyond the
planning stage, so it seemed fair to take fittings from contemporary German
vehicles |
Another fanciful project - the Ramm-Tiger. The idea
was to smash down buildings during street-fighting, but how did it avoid
filling up the vision hole in the front? The masonry on the roof
serves not only as a reminder of its use, but also to hide a rough join in
a very early resin kit. |
