built as a late pattern M3, using Airfix Sherman bogies with trailing idlers, as seen on very late vehicles.

KCA-04

Two examples, to show the differences between the late (left) and early (right) versions.  For the early version some light carving of the hull is necessary, no difficulty in the high-quality resin used.

Hatches could be modelled open, but they would need to be thickened, as they are cast thin to align correctly when modelled shut.

Both these kits are easy for an experienced modeller, and ideal for the beginner to conversions or resin modelling.    KCA-03 enables virtually any of the marks of Lee or Grant to be made, except the M3A4 which had a lengthened hull.  It is simply a matter of following the instructions, though a little filler may be necessary, especially as it is easy to mis-position the plastic hull parts slightly.  With a little care two or three vehicles may be made from each kit.  This is no hardship.  Firstly there are so many variants to choose, and secondly, the Airfix host kit is a pleasure to build.

KCB-05

The El Alamein Grant, KCB-05, is a more specific kit.  One of Matador's first, it is less well engineered than recent offerings, but is designed to build a typically heavily stowed desert vehicle.

The options for development here include a Lee, and use of the desert stowage on other vehicles, the Matchbox/Revell Priest, for example, or an M3 Grant.
